How many of you saw that programme on banks overcharging and are going to reclaim them to teach them a lesson?
(go to bbc.co.uk/news, a-z index and the money programme for details). It costs them £2.50 to process an unauthorised overdraft and they are charging up to £30.
Additional Details
The banks are only legally allowed to charge what it reasonably costs them to process the charge. You can claim back for the past 6 years. I'd like to see them swamped with claims. On the website it tells you how to go about it and they have forms to download.

Good question to put out there...I was thinking about this today funnily enough. I saw a programme back in June/July time and then researched it, sent letters out as advised to do and received a nice reply back...refunding all my bank charges! and yes there were a good few!! lol. I would advise anyone to take the time to go through their statements, total up the charges taken by your bank over a five year period (or whatever amount of statements you do have, you can apply for the rest later by requesting back statements) then send the letter off....for the price of a first class stamp, or recorded delivery it is well worth the time and effort. Good luck.

Go to web site The consumer action group or type in bank charges in your yahoo search box

I have just successfully reclaimed all my bank charges since 2000 from Intelligent Finance by using advice and templates from www.consumeractiongroup.com and money claim online. Definitely worth doing.

I didn't c the programme but I have just been charged 300 pounds by Lloyd's TSB, I'm sure they were on the news recently about doing this to people, I think someone took them to court and won, I will certainly be doing something about my situation it's extortionate. I spoke to them on the phone and reminded them that I could take them to court and they soon changed their tune and where as before they weren't willing to change their mind, I had managed to scare them into coop oration, fight back and give as good as you get, everyone these days wants a pint of blood.

Well If it works then I will give it a go. Will have to look at the website. But as they specify this on there details does this not mean we are obliged to pay?

i managed to get put through to an indian call center by my bank ,and really lost it wtih them over being overdrawn by £1 which they were going to charge me £50 ,after half an hour of not having a clue what the lady was saying i demanded to be put back through to the bank which they wouldnt do until i threatened to take them to court ,amazing put straight through to their u.k head quarters ,they wouldnt back down at first then i pointed out that they were in fact breaking the law and i would go to the press naming everyone who i spoke to ,,needless to say they cancelled the charge , never ever be put off by the red tape ..the banks know they are in the wrong and as long as you stand your ground and threaten them as much as they threaten you everything will be ok ..btw they do the same with mortgages ,if you pester the banks they will give you a much lower rate of interest on your mortgage ...i got mine down from 5.25% to 4.% ...they are very wary at the moment so go ahead and push your luck for a real bargain after all theyve been ripping us off for years ..payback time i say!
