Austin W. | How many support a boycott of Wal-Mart? |
I'm proud to say I haven't set foot in the place for 6 months Additional Details Why?
They are now paying 352 million dollars that they cheated out of employees by forcing them to work off the clock. That's because they are terrified that Obama will actually enforce wage and hour laws.
If a Republican had been elected, they wouldn't have bothered.
They destroy communities, Main Streets, small towns, and small businesses.
They censor their employees' speech.
They bust unions.
They sell cheaper and cheaper merchandise.
They treat customers like dirt, forcing them to wait in long lines because they're too cheap to hire people.
They suck dollars out of America and give nothing back. |

THEY ARE DESTROYING THE WORLD!!!! of course it's right to boycott wal-mart. These corporate industries are taking over the world, they are tracking people through microchips, i can't believe people are ok with that. I'm proud to see that someone else agrees with me and my family.:) |

I don't disagree with any boycott if there is a good reason. I am not sure you have a good reason. And unfortunately, your case is weakned by a heavy dose of nonsense like, "they censor employees" and "they sell chepaer and cheaper mechandise" and "they suck dollars out of America and give nothing back." That's just rhetoric, plain and simple. And I don't shop there either, but we have to be honest in our discourse if we want to make real progress.
Wal Mart meets a very real need for most consumers- the need to make their limited dollars go further. Do we need to pressure the company to not compromise their integrity once they have achieved such great power? Yes. Of course. What we see with Wal Mart is very typical of companies the grow fast and lose touch with human values along the way. So we should keep applying pressure on them, going to shareholder meetings to be heard, etc.
And then you should be spending your time working to help community businesses that are struggling. Most of the time it is because those small businesses have not been offerring their customers a good value or good service for a long time. Once their customers had an option, they bolted. Can you blame them, really? Every business has an obligation to earn its customers' business not just get it because they have been there for a long time (probably overcharging all the while).
So I agree, Wal Mart is at times a bit of a monster. But the truth is they actually have generated millions of jobs, brought value to consumers that wasn't there before, and generally treat customers very well. We have no right not to wait in line (unless you want to pay more- then shop elsewhere where you pay for that service). |

I never shop at WalMart. I don't have anything against the store in particular, but it's always packed, and the merchandise is of lesser quality than elsewhere. |

i support it. But they have huge stores in the UK now too (ASDA Walmart) and put them in places where people can't really afford to shop anywhere else. |

But those homeless people have a job now, even if it isn't great. At least they have something to live from.
I agree walmart is not a wonderful place, but many families need the cheap prices.
I also realize the cheap prices are because of third world country labourers, and this is saddening but it isn't going to stop no matter how sad it is, our society is much too greedy. |
