Where I live, Blockbuster has done away with late fees and replaced it with a new system. You have a week from the due date to return the movie. If you return it in this timeframe, there is no late fee. After that additional week is over the rental converts to a sale, and your credit card will be charged for the retail price of the movie. You now have 30 days to return the movie. If you return it within 30 days, you will receive a refund, minus $1.25 handling fee. After 30 days, you cannot return the movie because you now own it.
For example, if your movie were due today, you would have 7 days from today to return it before the rental converted to a purchase. |

Down here in Brazil they charge you about 6 reais 3 dollars a day, however if the movie is late they charge you 4 reais, 2 dollars per day. You can also pay the monthly package where you can get 3 movies at a time as many times as you wish in 30 days! |
