Ransem is out | How safe is HSBC Bank in this financial crisis? |
|
|

HSBC is the safest bank at the moment due to it having a lot of back up from its other worldwide business. Its one of the biggest financial companies spread over the world. And doesn't purely rely on British business. |

The "financial crisis" has come about from Banks being unwilling to lend to each other, due to the uncertainty of the exact exposure to sub-prime debt on each side. When the risk was taken on by the Banks, it was misrepresented as being good quality debt, when in actual fact it was a mixture of good, average and bad debt, but all rolled together into one supposedly AAA Credit Rated bundle.
Less affected were the "Balance Sheet" Lenders, who only lent out what they had received in investor deposits. Judging by the fact that HSBC has not been approaching the Chancellor for funds, like HBOS/Lloyds and NatWest, we can take it that they do not need a huge cash injection in order to survive.
Given the failure of the Icelandic Banks, who until very recently had an excellent credit rating, it is very difficult to state categorically that any Bank is "safe".
Most people have less than the guaranteed investment amount of £50,000 with their Bank, which may be the case for you. If so, don't worry, as any deposits you have are protected by the State.

HSBC is the safest bank in the UK at the moment, due to it having all it's assets and deposits based in Middle Eastern Finance and not in crummy backward Icelandic ones. |
