Sal | How to ask for salary raise? |
|
|

I have done this many times before..
1) List all of job duties you perform (try to stretch)
2) Do research on cost of living increases in your region
3) Do research on pay across your region for particular job
(research can be done on any search engine - bankrate sometimes has some good information)
Once you have an idea of what other people are making (hopefully you will find a broader range than what you are making), you draft a letter about why you feel you should be making more money (list the findings in a professional - non-emotional manner).
You deliver the letter and give the powers that be time to digest this. Do not threaten in the letter - just state facts...
A week later you follow-up with them in person and discuss it further.
You have given them time to think about it - and then you catch them off-guard by bringing it up in person.
If you're valuable to them, then they will seriously consider it.
This has worked for me each and every time!!! |

The best way to ask for a raise is to have the ammunition to ask when you sit down with the boss to ask for it. Keep a brag book, this is a book of your success stories, thank yous from clients, a listing of what you have done to make things better and more profitable in the workplace. This will provide verification that you do not just want a raise but deserve one. Tried and tested it works well. Good luck!! |

Put together a list of why you think you deserve a raise. Have you learned new skills and/or taken on new responsibilities? How long has it been since your last raise?
Don't hand the list to your boss, but memorize it and arrange a meeting with him/her to discuss. Be prepared to give examples. For instance, if you now balance a spreadsheet every day, know how long it takes you to do it. Know who else knows how? Did you have to go to a class to learn how to do it? All of these factors may help show your boss that you do deserve a raise. |

By your actions, not by your words. Do a good job everyday and it will be noticed and appreciated and you will get a raise. Sometimes that means you will be raised upstairs to the second floor of the building, but hey, that's a raise. |

Know what you are worth and point out the extras that you bring to the company. Shop the market and make sure you are asking for the correct amount. Maybe you are worth 5%-10% more than your slug co-worker. |

Consider whether you merit a raise and whether your company is in a position to give you one. Then choose your moment and your methods carefully. |
