Justin4088 | How to convince my boss that it is bad for moral to expect salaried employees to work 45+ hours a week? |
Additional Details I work for a non profit that has 4 group homes for teenagers and a non-public school. I know long work hours occur and that they occur a lot with this field but I want to know how to change the "expectation".

Sorry Justin, not sure how long you've been in the "real world" but salaried employees typically work 55 hrs a week, and depending on the company, sometimes more. You can always try going home at 45 hours but then you'd probably have to start considering a new career path. Don't shoot the messenger. |

Believe me, he already knows its bad for moral, he just doesn't care. That's just one of the perks of being salaried. |

Not sure what industry you work in, but I think 45 hours for salaried personnel is pretty lax. Most salaried professionals that I encounter typically work a 50 hour work week...
It would help if you could give us some more details as to what industry you're in. |

Oh, dear god no. How dare someone ask a guy to work 9 to 6 instead of the usual 9 to 5. That's disgusting.

In this economy and with so many people unemployed, you should just be happy that you have a job. Salaried employees routinely work more than 45 hours. This is common, so if it not for you than maybe you should look elsewhere. |

With out getting fired, i assume? If your salary is around $400.00 a week then I can understand what you are saying. However, if you are above $600-700/wk he/she will probably think you are lazy and don't appreciate having a good paying job in this crappy market we are currently in. 5-10 or more hours over forty hours a week is very typical of management positions, not knowing your job or position it is hard to give you a realistic answer to your question. |

You can't.
The more you are paid yearly, the more extra hours are required. That's the way it is.
Be sorry like me who are hourly wage earners and have to work extra hours for free to keep our job. |
