How to deal with someone extorting/racketeering your business?
Hypothetical scenario (serious question):
Someone (mob) is extorting your business for money or a share of your business with the threat of violence or death.
Do you go to the local police precinct and file a complaint (knowing that maybe the cops are also on their payroll)?
Do you file a complaint with the FBI?
Do you do either one and get a bodyguard?
Do you beef up surveillance at your business in case something happens?
Do you do nothing and just pay up or concede a portion of the business?
The first thing you need to do is buy life insurance (If you have a family) for yourself in case they kill you.
Sometimes the mob scares you first killing a relative instead of you so I suggest you to buy life insurance for your grandparents, your brothers and sisters and yourchildren in case they kill one of them.
I strongly suggest you to buy Insurance for your business in case your business is stoled. However, keep in mind most of the times they just torch your business in such a way that it's crystal clear it was arson and the insurance companies won't pay you a dollar.
A more smart approach would be to split your business in two.
Move half your merchandise to another location (Make sure it's outside the Family Territory) and that reduces your risks by 50% and place that businees under a diferent name (Not a relative)
If you get a bodyguard he will be killed and they will still come after you hard. It's also a good sign that you are scared.
I suggest you to start taking martial arts lessons in case you have to fight for your life. Most Mob Soldiers rely more on guns.
I also suggest you to hire an Expert on Knives and learn how to kill with them.
Always carry two guns (With the proper permits and buy them new) and learn how to shoot.
If you can afford it. Install bulletproof glass on your car.
Always wear Kevlar.
The Police cannot do anything without evidence. It is wise to install state of the art Color Video Cameras with Wi-Fi so they can transmit the live feed to another undisclosed location and save when they kill you or any of your relatives or one of your employees.
If you kill the "muscles" they will just send more.
What you really need to know is who is their boss.
Hire someone to tail them after they come to visit you again and learn where they live, who are their wives or girlfriends, if they have children, take pictures of their children in school, find their safe houses, find who is the boss and then you can drop me a line.
I strongly suggest you to see the films "Eye for an Eye" starring Sally Field and "Enough" starring Jeniffer Lopez.
YOU MUST NEVER CONCEDE A PORTION OF THE BUSINESS.

Watch the Soprano's episode that was on a few weeks ago. Season 6, Episode 73 "Johnny Cakes." In that episode it shows how corporate America has downsized their take.
