Do a search for the state/cities first like, NC cities, which leads you to http://dir.yahoo.com/Regional/U_S__States/North_Carolina/Cities/). Then do a search for one of the cities like, Asheville, NC businesses, which leads you to http://www.asheville.com/index.shtml#directory). If you already know the city you want to check out, just follow the last step.
