How to get our of deb with credit cards?

Try this site, it sure helped me and my husband: http://www.daveramsey.com

He doesn't want your money, he wants you to work hard, think, get rid of your credit cards and live the good life. Give it a try.

My hubby and I were deeply in debt. We now (after five years) own a home (no mortgage) a new car (well, 2006 PT Cruiser--no payments) and have no other bills except the regular monthly ones. They teach you how to budget, get rid of debt quickly and live debt free. What can it hurt to go and see for yourself?

Take them on one at a time. Dont try to spread the money that you have evenly over 4 cards or so. Take the money that you have and put it on one card until you pay that one off and then move on to the next one. I also suggest that you start first with the ones that have the least balances on them. When you pay those off you will have more motivation to continue cause you will feel like you are getting somewhere and not just throwing a pea into a bucket. Tighten your belt for a while and use all excess money to pay them off. Any large sums of money like tax returns should all be put on them. More important than anything is to track what you are paying. First order your credit report so that you will know exactly what you are looking at. From there take them on small to big. In no time you will be celebrating being tax free. Just dont pay for it on the cards. :)

First you should contact your credit card company and inform them that you have been offered a lower interest rate and that you intend to switch cards if they can't give you a lower rate.

Yes, it's lying, but it works. And you'll be able to pay off your credit cards faster if you have a lower interest rate.

You can also apply for cards with introductory rates of 0% and transfer your balance to that card. This is what I do. I have debt from having to pay for books with my credit card during college.

But do whatever works for you. Then you just need to be diligent in paying your credit card on time each month, and pay as much as you can. It is also important that you stop using your credit card to make purchases unless you absolutely have to. This might mean you go without a few luxuries, but it's better than being in debt forever.

You also need to look on your credit card statement and find out what your "minimum payment" is and how much you're paying for finance charges. If your minimum payment is less than your finance charges, then you're actually not doing yourself any good. Make sure you try to pay at least double what they're charging you in finance charges. This way you're at least paying off part of your balance, and not just the interest.

Just be smart about it and keep making your payments. It might feel like it's taking forever, but you will pay it off.

paying not only the minumum every month but extra..lets says if the minimum is 50 then pay 200! you will be debt free before you know it!

Free Thinker
Work at paying off the lowest one first by paying an additional amount every month. Then apply that amount to the next one. DO NOT CHARGE ANY MORE ON THE CARDS!
