mysfums | How to get your staff coming to work on time? |

All of the above answers are good. But remember, you may be complaining about someone being 30 minutes late who works 50+ hours a week (10 of them for free).
I watched department productivity fall when our boss cracked the whip on the "Friday go home at 4:30 thing" was put to a stop. We have an office envronment where you work 60 hours a week as needed...or 40 if things are caught up.
Pick your battles. If things that need to get done are not getting done because of tardiness...CRACK that whip. |

My job allows us to arrive within 15 minutes of our scheduled work time. This means that if I am scheduled at 7:30am, I can clock in between 7:15am and 7:45am without penalty. I still have to work 8 hours so starting 15 minutes late means I have to stay 15 minutes later at the end of the day. This allows for traffic and slow mornings when you just can't seem to get out the door.
However, if you arrive after the 15 minute bonus time, you have a tardy. The company allows 12 attendance violations in a rolling 12 month period. (Violation defined as being more than 15 minutes late, any unplanned days off, or any unplanned early departures from work. So, calling in sick would be a violation but taking a day off approved in advance by your manager would not be.)
Once you have 3 violations on your record, your manager talks to you after each additional one so you always know exactly how many you have. After one year from the violation, it drops off your record.
Constant tardiness is a sign of disrespect and a lack of discipline. Unless there are consequences to the action, it will continue. |

Make some concequences for there tardiness. Apparently they do it because they can get away with it, no punishment. |

send out a company wide email (with presidents approval) addressing the issue. Tell them repeated latenesses can result in disciplinary action up to and including termination - Do you have a company policy regarding attendance in you company handbook? - make one |

The work ethic is missing these days.
Try incentives. Serve really good coffee and muffins up until the time they are supposed to be there. Remove exactly 5 minutes before they're supposed to be there. If you're on time- a month, gift card for 10 bucks from a favorite place- Starbucks??? or a Catered luncheon once a month for the on-timers---
Make it fun. Balloons daily, "at ta girl / boy" stickers...
The more fun and creative, the more likely your success.
Good luck. God Bless! Love you! |

I've usually state the policy of the handbook and give them about a month or a trial period... for those that still abuse the system have his boss, the person, and yourself discuss the situation... there may be a reason behind it or just lazy... If so at that time I told them that if the situation wasn't rectified then you or that person's boss would start writing him/her up... But also make sure that your policy is strict on that otherwise they will find loop holes in it and they will debate it with you... |
