How to manage a stubborn employee?
I run a hair saloon & have 5 employees. It has been a year. I find it lately my employees show disrespectness like, talking back to you in a rude way, many non-sense / unnecessary complains, lazy, refuse to do what you told them to, etc.
I'm thinking not to keep them anymore, but there won't be subs asap. There're 2 of them who have probs, one of them has a good skill.
Is this only a seasonal problem? Since this month has less customers than usual. or...
Is this a common problem in business?
How to manage them? with rude talk? I see warning is useless.

probably they think they are in need.
how to show them that they aren't as important as they think?

Thanks

Unfortunately, when employees act like this, its a sign of Managerial failure. Why did they lose their respect for you? Why are they not happy working there? Less customers could certainly have something to do with that, because it also means that tips are down and so are their incomes. So- you should work to identify what your failings are, and work to correct them. Also, you may want to consider firing 1 of the 2 troublemakers, whomever the worst one is. Make an example of her for the rest, that might help resolve the issue as well. But if you have not fixed your problems, then making an example of someone is only a short-term fix.

If you have a problem with one employee, then I'd say it's the employee's fault. If you have a problem with most of your employees, then I'd be willing to bet that YOU are the problem. If you need them to stay in business, then they ARE important, and it's time you realized that. As for respect, I've found that people who don't get any respect usually don't GIVE any; it has to go both ways, after all. I'd take a look at the entire situation - including the person in the mirror - and decide what's REALLY bugging you.

Good luck.

I would be straight forward about it. Call a meeting and tell your employees that disrespect and rude behavior will not be tolerated in your salon. If anyone continues, they will be dismissed immediately. Then enforce what you say.

write up a warning letter and put it in their folder.............have them sign it or have a witness sign that they were present if they will not sign it.........and look for one new person..........see who shapes up..............

It sounds like you have put up with a lot of crap for to long. I would suspend the next person that is rude or disrespectful With out pay for a week. If they quit it was meant for them to leave. You need to put in writing your rules and regulation and if they do not abide by them they will be suspended or dismissed. Hope this helped. Best wishes.

Set clear expectations, and hold them to those expectations. If absenteeism is a problem, set a limit and enforce it. Dig out some job applications and leave them on your desk when you talk about performance problems. If one of them goes "too far" in front of the rest, then an immediate (private) dismissal may remind the others who's in charge.
