How to tell my boss somone is stealing at work ?
Long story short,

@ My job we have petty cash & money orders.. an employee (Renne) asked for a money order so she didn’t have to buy one….
She asked me and another employee (Jackie) since I had the last M.O I agreed & gave to her. While doing other things, I left it up to my co-worker (Jackie) to put the cash back in the petty cash, with a note… she did not.. instead the crazy b**ch took the cash. While on her way home, she’s P/T I was on my out to lunch…as we were walking she handed me over $100.00 I asked her what is this for was? She told me that she did not put the money back, instead she was going to keep it.. Because the bosses will never know… I told her I couldn’t keep the money it wasn’t right… her response to me was she been there longer.. and weather I took the money or not, she was keeping it & wasn’t going to give the money back… so it was to my understanding she has done this in the past..? She pursued me to take the money & I did…. When I got back to the office my bosses where already gone… I then consulted in another employee and he told me I did the right thing & I should tell the general manager, I told him I can’t do that because those two are friends and im afraid that he might call her & warn her. He then told me to just tell my bosses tomorrow morning …

So my question is, do you think my boss accept my honesty even though I took the $ to begin with? Or do I look just as guilty as she does?

I know some short story… lol

Hand the general manager, try to have your boss as a witness, an envelope with the money in it before you say a word. Explain what happened as simply as you can, don't call anyone names or use foal language or try to tell him why it happened. It doesn't matter who was full time or part time or there longer.
You know you are telling the truth but they may not do anything if they can't prove she is a thief.
This could be a test of you to see if you are a petty thief.

You were right to accept the money with the intent to turn it over to the company. That is the ethical thing to do.

However, when you accuse this co-worker of theft, you must have and do not have a witness. In no case is it permissible to lay an accusation without proof that would stand up in a court. You say she stole, she says, no, you stole the money and are trying to lay the blame on her.

You should advise the company, not this person's friend, that you suspect theft. It is appropriate to state that this co-worker was one of only a few who could have stolen an amount of money. Include yourself in the list of those who could have stolen the money. You are one of the people who could have, and you do not want someone else to come forward with that observation.

Your objective in this will be to have the company do some surveillance likely to catch the thief, so that you need never make an unsupportable accusation.

If you are the one who goes to the boss to tell him and you put back any of the money that you have, you will not look guilty. Right now though, you do have some guilt in this because you know about it and haven't told anybody yet. I would be concerned about that if I were you. I would tell my boss as soon as possible to protect myself.

You need to get to your bosses before anyone else does. Tell them exactly what happened with the money and what she said. Then tell them that she gave you that money and you took it so you could return it. But you didnt know where she put the rest of the money. Tell them you tried to tell them yesterday but nobody was there. You should even try to call them now and leave a message. Get to work before anyone does because if your bosses find out that BOTH of you have stolen money (no matter how it got in your hands), you will both be fired and possibly charged with theft which can lead to jailtime. So do the right thing and confess ASAP.

Being a good employee includes trustworthiness you dont want to leave the problem alone because you will soon regret it . tell the truth it will be worth it .And you could lose your job if your boss finds out you knew about the stealer and decided not to tell him or her who it was.......
