It's great that you want to improve your English skills.
I would recommend starting with eliminating the use of text messaging/chat abbreviations when writing in English. I understand the need and convenience of these shortcuts, however, it will do nothing to help you while you are learning.

Start by spelling out words.
u, ur,thx. come on. Use "you", "you are, " "Thanks"
Some people will not have a clue what you're talking about. If it's not worth taking the time to spell it out, it's not worth our time to read it. |

Register to take an english class. Get a good dictionary and look up words and meanings. Go to your nearest library and ask if they have english learning dvd's.. and also some good books that will help you. And comic books, don't laugh but a friend of mine learned english by reading archie comic books.. Good Luck to you.. |

Start listening to the way people speak. You seem to be speaking engrish and missing a lot of words. Watch some American movies and try duplicating the way they speak. |

Like many people say, watch TV and movies and repeat what they say for practice. You should also record words and phrases from people on the News because they have good, clear English. Also, record yourself saying words too so you can compare that to the recordings of newscasters and others natively speaking English. |

When I moved to the United States, I had a ton of help in understanding English.
I watched A LOT of T.V. But right now, there's more trash on T.V. than when I watched it. I would recommend sticking to the educational channels, like PBS, Discovery, or History. Have "caption" run across the screen. It's easy to see sentence structures and English the way people speaks it.
Also, read. Start with basic books; pictures help as well. Connecting a visual with the word makes it much easier to remember.
English is a very difficult language, despite what many believe. It's more of a familiarity and adaptation since there are many contradictions in the language. |

Take English as a second language classes. You could also buy cd's to listen to. A more expensive alternative is to hire a personal tutor or speech therapist. |

Hang around with Americans more than you usually would. It may feel more comfortable to rely on your native language, but improving your English is going to be UNCOMFORTABLE. Try to get your Asian friends and family to use English around you. And only speak English in the house. There is nothing wrong with keeping your native language and passing it on to your kids, but if you want to improve your English skills you need to use English all day every day. |
