the BABY | Howcome when I ask people's name on the phone they get weird? |
sometimes when I talk to a customer service rep or whatever, especially if it's a white girl, they get all weird like if I ask them their name, they sound hesitant to tell me? Tell me, is that fair? they ask for my name and when I ask for theirs, they don't feel like it?! It's mostly the women doing this. The boys I have no problem with. Does this happen to any body else? I'm just curious why they are like that. I find it offensive a little. Additional Details "Maybe it's because you're weird."
on the phone? Uh no. I'm just trying to ask questions! Sheesh! What's weird about that? They are there for a reason are they not?! to help the customers?! |

I had that experience as well, but I think the reason they act "weird" like you said, is because if the customer is not satisfied with the service or they just do something wrong or compromising, they hope their name don't come up when it's time for the company to solve any kind of problems, financial, legals, etc.
It happened to me with a famous cell phone company, the lady was very rude, and when I asked her name anybody could tell that she didn't want to get in trouble giving her identity after her bad service. |

They might be afraid that you weren't satisfied and are going to report them to their supervisor. Then their supervisor will fire them and then they won't know what in the world to do for money because their rent is due and they have to pay the electricity and phone bills and she had a fight with her boyfriend this morning or a guy friend she really likes or has a stalker on her hands. Seriously, I'm not psychologist but women tend to be worrywarts and it all snowballs until they give themselves anxiety attacks. Men tend to have a more focused mind and are in the 'here and now' so when you ask them their name they think nothing of it. women tend to think more about the 'what ifs' and when you ask their name about 10 billion things run through their head and they get hesitant. I doubt it's anything personal to you, it's just their worries. |

I have never experienced the "problem" that you describe. You are not asking for full names? Right? If you are asking for the full name that is on you. It has the feel of threat of some kind. All Cr's I have dealt with say "this is Sarah, how may I help you?" I am not clear if you are asking for full names. If so, you should expect a kind of weak response. Not siding against you. But, we all can be wrong. Good luck. |

When you're talking to a customer service rep, they should give you their name in the beginning. If you ask for it, they might feel like you are going to report them and that's why they are hesitant. Everyone who's had a call center job has had a problem caller who is rude to them and it can make them shy away from sharing their name to avoid personal trouble. Don't be offended, it's not worth it. Just FYI They do not have to give you their last name. |

Most customer service reps that I have dealt with don't have a problem giving their name. If you treat them with a bit of respect when you call about a problem or to complain you will get the same in return.
Maybe it is your "especially if it's a white girl" attitude that part of the problem. Also referring to them as "girls or boys" won't help a lot. The majority of them are women and men. |

I have a similar experience.People from customer service are trained and given their name may be not part of the training. Most of them are reading a written script.Anything out of script they fumble. It is not white or black, man or woman it is lack of training.I recommend do not to give your name. |

I think some people are hesitant to give their names because if something goes wrong, they don't want their names mentioned. CSR's usually say their name when they answer the phone and i always have a pen handy and write it down then. Just incase the call goes south I have their name. Because after things get ugly their not giving up their name. |
