I'm having a problem with one of the employees at work?
I'm having a problem with one of the employees at work in retail, the problem is that he's been leaving stuff that he is supposed to be working on and he doesn't even bother working them out and I have to come back the next morning to finish his work along with me having to perform my duties and just the other day it took me over an HOUR just to get his work done before I was able to do my work.

I personally think this employee should be demoted to cashier instead of working in freight, stocking shelves and working on the salesfloor.

Is it excusable that he is not getting his work done and that I end up finishing it for him? What should I do if it keeps on continuing with him not finishing his work and I have to end up finishing it for him? The management isn't very happy with the employee at all either.

As for me I'm a really hard worker and I try to help out my co-workers as much as I can.
Additional Details
Plus alot of the employees don't think he's a very good worker at all either.

You will always encounter bad employees no matter what line of work you're in. Best thing to do is learn to deal with this person and tell your bosses every chance you get that you finished up his job for him. The best promotions I have ever gotten have been on the shoulders of people who weren't performing up to standards. It's a great chance to show the bosses you deserve a raise or promotion.

fire the employee and be real careful i hate to see you like this

Good luck i hope it all works out for you

Just cut his hours or if you're open at night, switch his hours to the night shift.

Sounds like he knows you will pick up the slack! You have two choices, you can keep doing it and justice will prevail. Or you can stop picking up the slack and hope you don't get nailed for it. If your his boss, you need to sit down with him and have a chat. If not your hands are tide. Good luck to you.

1. do a one on one talk with the person. tell him all your observations.
2. remind him of your company policies.
3. don't forget to document what transpired during your talk.
4. if he doesn't change, report it to higher management . it's up to them. but if you are authorize to fire people, DO IT!

You need to have a talk with him and tell him he has to finish his work, you can't keep doing it for him, he's not meeting performance expectations, and it must improve. Then document each time he doesn't finish his work after that, so you have specific examples. Then talk to your manager with the facts--dates, times, what he did or didn't do (sounds like you don't have firing decision authority?).

Stan
Your first step may be to talk to the other person in an informal way and discover if there is a reason for the sloppy work. Then you and your workmates would know if you need to help out this colleague.
Ultimately if you're not happy with the situation it becomes a management issue and you would have to subtly express your concerns without it sounding like a vendetta.
Is their such a thing a s a union or workers representative group where you are.. if so talk to them again in confidential terms.

Talked to your supervisor.

Did you try talking to him about it? Let him know your position. The key is not to be angry when you approach him. He will probably be defensive.

If he gives you a real answer about why his work isn't getting done, you will feel better. If he ignores you or tells you it's not his problem, either tell him that you are going to let the manager know, or don't tell him anything and let the manager know anyway.

On top of what everyone else has said I would like to add my 2 cent's

There is helping out co -worker's that may get a little behind and then there are co-worker's who get behind because they slack intentionally and because they know that good ol you will do it for them the next morning.

This person is taking advantage of your kindness .

darcy.moore
i am sorry you are going thru this... do you have a human resource department at your company? if so, you could ask them for guidance/assistance on how best to handle this situation. This department will be held to very strict employer laws about confidentiality so you need not worry about this co-worker finding out you were the employee to raise this issue. Your manager could then be told of the problem by this department & would then be required to take action. Please be sure to check with them how they would handle however before discussing in detail. If management ignores it you would be better going to a company who values their hard workers because that is what you deserve & are entilted to!

Due to lawsuits, employers drag their feet before they even bother to fire a poor performer. Your best bet is to look for another job. It won't help the company, they'll let good people leave left and right before they'll fire the poor performer, but at least you'll be happier.
