I would call them, you could always say sorry, wrong number. Also try a reverse directory listing like whitepages.com. The on-line ones aren't that reliable tho.

A better bet would be your local library, they will have reverse directories in their reference sections for personal and business numbers.

do a little research... maybe use a search engine. Hopefully you know the name... otherwise just call up see how they answer the phone and once you catch the name hang up and do your research.

Either google the company name or their phone number -(including area code). This should get you some results.

You could probably use the phone number to find out what state it is in. And I'm assuming you know the company's name at least so then you could easily find thier website on Yahoo search.

assuming you also have the company name ...

if it's a national company and you are looking for company stats and such .... google them

if it's a local company and you are looking for info in reputation or how long they have been in business try your local area chamber of commerce or better business bureau.

Call 411 and get a reverse phone-number lookup. You give them the number and they'll tell you the name listed under that number. From there you can always google them. If they're a legitimate company, there should be some info. floating around on the web about 'em.
