I've been with the company for over a year and i am just getting this today do i have to sign the paper ?

YeeeHaaaa
Make sure you read the fine print. You don't have to sign any paper but it may bar you from receiving some of the companies benefits. Typically, companies prevent the issuing of Stock Options to employees if an Arbitration Agreement isn't signed. Check with HR to find out what benefits you may be forfeiting.

Cat >^^<
Depends on what the paper is. Companies change policies a lot (whether we like it or not). If you choose not to sign it, they can terminate you. You really should have posted more information to better answer your question.

Robert C
no you never have to sign anything

Details would have been nice....lol. Basically most local employment laws state that you do NOT have to sign anything your employer hands you.....even a letter of reprimand. It will probably be noted on your file that you did refuse to sign.....which is in reality a scare tactic on the employers part. Don't EVER sign anything, anywhere for anything that you do not agree with. The law is on your side on this one. Look up your state or provincial laws on this....find out all your rights. Much luck :)

you left a lot of details out. what is the paper entailing. Is it offering you a promotion, signing such a paper means you accept the promotion. Is it a review, you don't have to sign it but there isn't anyway around it outside of quitting.

UM, go ahead and read it first, then ask any questions if you have any. Things change in a company, and sometimes you may need to be introduced to new stuff, or maybe time passed and you got away without signing something that you were supposed to have already signed. Go ahead and read anything before you compromise yourself with a signature, and do ask questions on anything you don't fully understand. Good luck.
