Yossarian!!!
I've got a job interview tomorrow. Just heard this company has a bad rep for not paying wages. What can I do?
It's with Narconon ; a drug & alcohol rehab place in St Leonards on Sea. They're linked to Scientology - which makes me all the more uncertain. Should I ask up front about their bad history? Or even just not go to the interview? I don't want a 48 hour job that doesn't pay!

I would attend the interview anyway and do not ask about the wages issue!! If they offer you the job, make the decision then as to whether you will work for them or not (do a bit more research after the interview)
If you don't take the job, at least its a bit of interview experience for you, but I would suggest not saying anything to the interviewers about what you have heard, it wouldn't make a good impression and they are not going to admit to it anyway.
Have a chat with the secretary if possible while you are waiting for the interview, you might be able to gain a few bits of information.....good luck!

Paul S
Look, if you dont want to do it then dont do it.

Bryan C
You don't have to take the job. Personally I would check this out BEFORE going to the interview (If you've got time)
If you sign a contract that states the amount they are going to pay you, (and both parties agree) they can't just go back on it. This is illegal and you can actually take them to court for this.
Perhaps their bad reputation is just a rumour, because I think that they would have been shut down by now if this was a frequent thing.
BUT remember, no matter what steps you take, you never have to accept the job.

rtfm
I wouldn't go. Scientology? Do you really want to let these people become a part of your life?

Daniel C
Well if at the end of week 1 you don't get paid, leave.
I would not bring something like that up without factual evidence, there would be no point in even going for an interview as they will just tell you to sod off, actually I would not bring anything like that up full stop.

What are you expecting them to say, "Yes we have a bad history of not paying our employees", if they did not pay, I would expect they would not have any employees, so there would not be a company there to run.

The only way to find out is by getting a job there, if the don't pay, just leave, but make sure you are leaving them in the doo-dar, they won't be able to do anything about it, especially if they don't pay you.

Research if their bad history has some truth in it.
If it's true, then don't go, why work for a company that doesn't pay ?
If you want to do some charitable work you can do that yourself no ?

Steve_S
Cancel the interview. Drug rehabilitation is a tough occupation and only someone with some interest and passion for it will do well. If your interests mainly concern money, get a job as a stock broker or a dog minder or something like that.
