I am 16 can I be a cashier or a chercker at Kmart?
Please help I have the job interview tomorrow...

I think rayt has the right answer on this one. Some companies have a preference as to what age they like to hire so asking them is your safest bet.

In my experience most companies don't care one way or another, especially for a "checker" or "cashier" position but there are some that want you to be 18 or older. Most likely this is due to the fact that in most states this makes you legally accountable for your actions.

Be prepared that if you're still in school and don't have the availability to work the shifts that they desire it would most likely remove you from the running for that position. Most places, especially larger chain stores hold onto applications for a long period of time (Kmart specifically holds onto applications for 90 days - this varies between employers however so make sure to keep note of it) so if a position becomes available within the time-frame you're available to work they may pull your application and call you at a later date.

Don't be afraid to go into the place of desired employment. Make sure to dress for the occasion (first impressions are a big seller when you're trying to get a job) and ask for the Hiring Manager. Let them know that you are interested and that you turned in your application (or have it on hand to give to them directly, attaching resumes is also a good idea) and when you're available. It will allow the hiring manager to put a face to your application and shows that you really want that job.

Lastly, as far as interviews go - be yourself. Be honest and dress sharp. Interviews generally are presented by the hiring manager (sometimes there are 2 managers present or you have to go through two interviews, in rare cases there can be more but I don't think you'll have to worry about that). Most interviews aren't as intimidating as some think so don't stress out about it. Make sure to get there early by, I'd suggest, at least 10 minutes or so - it shows punctuality (which is a good thing, it gets you kudos points). Most are just a series of questions, answer them to the best of your ability and show that you would be an asset to the position and the Kmart team.

Most of all have fun and I wish you good luck!

If you are 16 I don't see why not. As far as the interview. Just be yourself. Have confidence in yourself, and show that you are a people person. Smiling helps a lot too. Good luck :)

Only THEY can answer you on that one. There should be no reason why not if they called you to interview. You may need a work permit which your school can provide. Go get em!!!
