Starbucks Looking to Spread the Caffeine
Excerpt from the Investor Guide.com Stock of the Day on 10/6/2006
Wall Street is a pretty fickle place and Starbucks will attest to that. Its shares were thumped in early August after the company reported the most disappointing sales growth number for July in years but now traders are showering love on a company which is undoubtedly one of the prominent exports of the left coast. Starbucks reported a 6% increase in same store sales for September (the street was expecting 3.6%) and also disclosed that revenues for its fiscal year which ended Sept 30 rose 22%. That was enough information to boost the stock up around 6% Wednesday evening and then another pop came in yesterday when it announced that it plans to increase the store count to 40,000 (as opposed to the 30,000 target that it had set earlier). So the question is can the success of its current store base of around 12,000 be preserved and enhanced on a scale over 3 times greater and secondly, does the stock still have room to run? |
