I've watched a couple of them now and it seems like they want to make people not buy PCs instead of making people want to buy Macs....

I asked my boss for a promotion and he said we will talk.?
My boss quit and I am his assistant. I asked the area manager for his position through a text message and he sent me one saying we will talk what should I take from this.
He probably didn't really appreciate being put on the spot by way of a text message. That was bit unprofessional. If he wanted to say 'no', I don't think he would have sent that message back via a text message, and "we'll talk" isn't a "Yes", it's just a polite way of getting out of an akward position. He's probably hoping that you will approach him in a more professional manner. Also he can't make any promises to you until the job is posted and you interview, this way everyone has a fair chance (that's how most companies operate).

Expect to talk to him.
And prepare beforehand. Be ready to present reasons why you deserve this new job. Show your knowledge of the position, what new ideas you may have for the position, and how you have excelled at your current job.

It means that you have a shot at it. Its better than a no, but not as good as a yeas- I'd be hopeful going into the meeting with him.

Well there is a probability. I don't think he would respond that quickly in a txt message saying yes.
?
That the door may be open for you to take the job he didn't send back a message that said no or we have someone else. So think about what you want you want to say, ect. Good Luck

In the future, you probably should ask this kind of question in person, not via email.
You may have a good chance. "We'll talk" isn't a "no". Be prepared with plenty of reasons that you will be an asset in the position. What make you stand out? Why are you more qualified then anyone else?
How do you do your present job? You will have to defend that as well, so be prepared.
