I got this letter in the mail today along w/ a check for $2,750 from a company that Ive never heard from called Liberty Financial Corporation. It said that I was part of the North America Prize Pool held on April 14th 2008 & due to the mix up in numbers and names, the results were released on Feb 19th 2008. It even gave me the attached ticket number & serial number that supposedly won 2nd in the lottery category.
I never signed up for such a thing that I know of, Ive filled out little sweepstakes in stores to win random prizes, but to my knowledge not sure of this one. It also said the check is not valid until I contact their office & they give me the number to call. Im wondering if this is a hoax or some tactic to get me to call & try to sell me something or trick me into something. Ive also heard of places that have been trying to collect you for debt tricking you into thinking you won money & when you call, they have you on the phone to get their money.

I would feed it to my shredder. But, if you really want answers you can look on Snopes.com and see if they have done a story on it...if not forward them the info and they may look in to it.
Good rule of thumb...if it seems too good to be real...it probably is. |
