I have 52 shares of Texas Petroleum dated June17, 1929. Is it worth anything, where do I find out?
If you want to research the history of that company, you should start with contacting the Texas Secretary of State, whose office would be responsible for tracking state corporations. It probably will be archival material, but it should be possible to track the company down to find out whether it was ever acquired by a company still in business.

Those shares are probably worth nothing. Look and see if they show where the company was incorporated. Probably Delaware but possibly Texas. From there you may be able to find out more from the Secretary of State's office. Most of them have a searchable online database.
