Ian's Mommy | I have a contract with my job that ends in april, but chronic back pain, physical job... can i get out of it? |
i groom dogs and my contract with my employer ends in April. if i voluntarily quit before then, i have to pay $2,000.
i have had chronic back pain for a few years now. it is becoming unbearable. i can't sleep well. i can't stand for long periods of time without tremendous pain. i've been going to a chiropractor, but it is very expensive and isn't helping much.
is there some way i can get out of my contract and quit my job without having to pay $2000 due to chronic back pain? with a doctors note or something? |

I've treated several dog groomers and it's very tough work. They get very bad back problems from standing and stooping forward.
First see your regular Doctor (assuming you have insurance). Also see a Chiropractor who can give you some adjustments, massage and stretching exercises.
As far as your contract, you shouldn't quit. If you can't work they have to fire you, and that would release you from your contract. They can't make you pay because you are injured. In fact they have to pay you disability because you got hurt on the job. Ask for the number of their insurance company if they give you a hard time. Good luck. |

Yes. It's called "Workman's compensation".
It is a law.
If you can prove your back injury resulted from an on the job injury, you should not be paying for any of your treatment.
My advice to you is , if, your injured back is a result of lifting, grooming, and handling dogs of various sizes over a period of years, you need and must be compensated for your injury. If it was a pre existing problem and this work aggravated it, the company you work for and your prior place of employment are equally responsible for you medical bills.Since you are under a contract, read the fine line.Medical documentation is a must. You may have to still honor the contract,so you may need to actually hire a groomer that can fulfill the contract, and then re coupe the salary pending the out come. |

You should consult a lawyer probably or simply tell your employer that your health is making your job impossible and perhaps they will understand or ask you for a doctors note. |

If you have a medical reason for being unable to carry out your contract they can't deny you quitting and make you pay money to them. Get a doctor to write a note to them explaining your medical issue and that you are no longer able to do this work. If they still try to make you pay you can take them to court |

I have chronic back pain myself. Have had it for four years. I feel for you. Unfortunately, I can't answer your question. You may have to get an attorney. When the pain is bad and you get depressed, know that you are not alone. A website that has really helped me is DailyStrength.org. |

It might take an attorney and that would probably cost even more. If you were an employee you could go out on family and medical leave. Re-read the contract for any clauses pertaining to your problem. |
