From the description, this appears to be a senior management position. At this level, role specific skills are assumed to be hygiene issues and the fact that you have been called for an interview means that you fit the bill. It is more your fitment in this new organization's culture, management style, and thought leadership that will be under scrutiny.

If I were you, I would expect and prepare for the following questions (in no particular order):

1. What is your management style?
2. How do you manage & resolve conflicts? Can you elaborate with an example?
3. What according to you are the key ingredients of an effective business/ strategic plan? (Remember it is not just how good a plan you draw up or the steps involved but your proactiveness in coming up with countermeasures when things go off course that assumes importance for senior roles)
4. Expect some industry specific questions. I am not aware of your industry but senior people are asked for their opinions on the industry trends to get an idea of thought leadership. For example, what is your view on the impact that growing internet penetration can have to our business in China?
5. How do you manage an irate/ unreasonable sub-ordinate or colleague or boss?
6. What indicators would you typically monitor to address progress of a strategic plan and raise red flags when needed?

Basically, put yourself in your current bosses' shoes and think of the questions that he/ she normally asks. The new employer is not likely to be too different in the way he/ she assesses you.

Hope this helps!

You are in the running to be a director and you can't think of interview questions

You should know if you are applying!

Interviews are usually conducted to select the best candidate with (either/both) of the following:
1) aptitude
2) attitude

Some interviewers place greater weightage on attitude over aptitude because they believe the lag in aptitude can be overcome by the strength in attitude - with the assumption that a person with a good attitude usually has the personal will to improve his own gaps in aptitude. It is rare to get a person high in both aspects.

If you are interviewing a person for the director's post, what will you be looking for? Good luck.

if you need to ask, you are not director material.

ability to come up with answers before the question has even been asked is an essential role I would have thought

I understand the predicament you are when you are confused on what to expect:- I am not a director (yet) but all I can think of is 1. How will I add more value to this organization by hiring me? 2. Given different situations, how u respond etc.
