Every company has their own policies. I do not believe that they legally have to give you paid vacation time. But my goodness: 6 yrs and one wk of and 15 for another? Thats just ridiculous. Id quit that place! |

Your other benefits should be outstanding. Base salary, good health coverage/dental/vision, 401K,etc...
If none of these apply in your case, it's time to look for other employment. Car dealerships aren't all alike. |

15 years to get 2 weeks of vacation is a long time. Most of my jobs have started out with 2 weeks, then go to 3 after 5 years. Sounds like it's time to find a new employer. |

Not the norm, it's low. You get what you negotiate. Hopefully you get a big, whopping commission.
It sounds more like a contract job where you take care of yourself and get no benefits; the good side of that kind of deal is that you get more commission than the salary types.
Hard to believe anyone would work at a car dealership for fifteen years. |

Vacation is a benefit. They do not have to offer you any vacation, sick leave, 401k. Many companies do because they want to retain employees; benefits are an important perk. One week after six years is tough, frankly. Many many companies will offer two or more after that tenure but it is arbitrary and up to the company to decide.

sounds like a place that you should get your base experience in sales, get an excellent reference and then move on. Six years... you should already have that in place. Yes, start looking. It's a job that is in the business for themselves, not their employees. I'm not saying their bad, just if what you're looking for are benefits, it's time to move on my friend! Good luck in your job search! |

I don't think that this is the norm. Otherwise, people wouldn't stay. With 6 years of experience selling cars, you can go to a lot where they offer benefits. Or, even selling other items for another type of company. |

You are obviously in US. Surely, if this is a serious question, there are groups to ask other than on Yahoo,in UK we have Citizens Advice. I thought slave labour had finished.. |

Every company sets its own policy. We were two weeks initially, three for five years, four for ten, and five for twenty years. |

Most people think they work for a company, climb the corporate ladder and think they have success.I do understand how you feel when this kind of situation arised.I felt the same way working at a bank.I found out that working for a corporate world means climbing a ladder which you donot belong.Wall can be taken away any minute now a days.Solution!BOYB i.e be your own boss. Why not to have vacation time you want to have, not just 1 week.It can happen,if you think you can.You can.To work another 15 years to get another vacation. It's rediculous. Many things can happen during that time frame.I think it's a wakeup call!
I can recommend many things that might make sense to you if you need more info. You may cantact me at ppandya_1@yahoo.com
