I live in the UK and want to know why i pay for a TV licence?
Why do i have to pay for a TV licence if i have Sky.
As far as i know the TV licence is to pay for the BBC's utilities, and the only programme i watch on there is Top Gear!
How does it work? Additional Details Oh and it costs £135 + a year.
Basically, channels make the money they need to keep running by showing adverts, which they receive money to show.
The BBC has no adverts, and so relies on TV license fees to keep itself going.
regardless of how much BBC you do or do not watch, your paying for it to keep going.
seems a little stupid i know.

the only reason u have to pay that crap is because the government there is probably as bad as here and greedy for money.

Well, i guess you are paying a high price to watch Top Gear. I hope you LOVE that show to make it worth while! Also, if it makes you angry enough you should look into moving to Australia. If you want basic channels you pay nothing and then extra channels you have to pay for. Also we have Top Gear for free here!

You pay because the gov't in the UK says everybody has to. We all some some communist laws but luckily enough we here in Canada do not have to pay a TV fee. Rediculous.

It works like this the TV licenses pay for the BBC even if you don't watch it :)
