Many people tend to think bad of corporations for many reasons. From time to time, we get to hear that "a large corporation has commited a fraud" or "violated labour law" and so on. Others simply do not like the fact that corporations make a lot of money.

Sometimes it is a good idea to boycott a particular corporation. A large sport equipment manufacturer once suffered because of a worldwide boycott when it was revealed that it was employing children to work in its factories in Asia, paying ridiculously low salaries and providing an unpleasant working enviroment. I believe that "punishing" corporations which use such tactics by not buying their products is a good idea!

Some people want to make a statement with the only real voting power you have which is your $$$.
In all reality your $$$ counts far more than any ballot you'll ever cast in your lifetime so spend wisely folks, your future depends on it!!!!!!!!

they are trying to keep the underdog from going under. do a little history research on walmart and see how they put tons of small local businesses out of business.

Simply because many corporations are anti-competetive and destroy variety. They also exploit suppliers and pay low wages in order to make huge boardroom profits. For example, Mexico's coffee growers have hit a crisis because they find it hard to get a fair price for their product. Corporations are bullies whose main interest is making money, not suuplying a quality product. They are cynical in this. McDonalds, Walmart, Coca Cola, to name but three, all use unpleasant and culturally fascistic methods in order to push their product to the interests of no-one.

It is because the big corporations are closing out the smaller mom and pop companies. I myself prefer to go to a little privately owned place to shop, eat or drink than to go to a corporate owned place. I get better service and the people who work there appreciate every customer who walks through their doors unlike the bigger companies that have the mentality that if they loose one customer it's alright because there will be another in just a second.

They would rather deal with and spend their money with a local business, so their money stays in the community rather than enriching some far-off corporate coffers.

Also, especially with restautants, etc., the culture of the establishment when corporate owned seems contrived and superficial (think Applebee's) whereas a locally owned business may have genuine cultural roots in the community.

Because they don't want to make those corporations wealthier, of course a cup of coffee is not a big deal, but if thousands of people do that, there are going to be thousands of cups of coffee less.
Is like a way to protest against them, or to help the small industry.

Admiral Question
It depends on the person; some people may not like the way Starbucks or other corporations run their businesses. Some may simply prefer to help the "ma and pa" operations.

I feel both ways basically; I'm not fond of many of the large corporations though I recognize they provide a lot of benefits etc. to people and society. A big reason I disapprove of them is their failure, often, to provide good quality and value for the money.

For example, the automakers churn out far more cars than are necessary for the world to make use of (even with their unreliability) and they're priced far beyond the reach of ordinary people.

Small businesses may employ fewer people but usually they're locally based, often give better service and appreciate their customers more.

Some corporations actually engage in questionable or illegal behaviour or activity (as Coca Cola has been alleged to do).

There is nothing wrong with going to a corporation to buy stuff. The corporations started off as small mom and pop stores just like every one else. They just got lucky and made it big. As long as they are still giving back to the community and are not destroying it, then there is nothing wrong.
