Should I give the person a positive feedback?
I feel they made quite a profit on the postage.
Should I email them and ask them about it first or put a comment in the feedback?
The package was quite small, it was books, so they sent it book rate. Also the package was not one that had to be bought, just a cardboard box put together.
I'm afraid that if I don't leave a positive feedback they will retaliate even though I paid quickly and should get a positive feedback. |

When you bid on the item you were agreeing to pay the shipping costs that they were listing. I don't think it's right to leave negative feedback. If you didn't want to pay that much shipping you shouldn't have bid on the item.
If you weren't paying attention to how much shipping is when you bid next time you need to. Some sellers will have insane shipping costs. Much higher than it would actually cost to ship the item. |

You can e-mail them with your comment and see if they respond. This is typical of most businesses & e-bay sending products etc. They give an estimated amount based on weight, packing materials and handling fee (time+gas spent getting to post offfice etc.) to cover all their expenses. If you accepted the amount from your bid with shipping, then that's what you pay regardless. Sorry! |

I ran a mail order business and you had to post a set amount for everything and , yes, it may only cost 3.63 for your zip code but then it is more to Puerto Rico, for example and for heavier books. Also, it costs more in material and labor to have to do labels, invoice,and box separately dinky little orders of one book each than, say, 5 books at a time. The unit costs for small orders are a much bigger % of the total cost. This adds up on the supplier end. Running a small business is no picnic. I would not complain--the postage was posted. Usually if you order more the supplier will give you a break on the postage or even free postage sometimes depending on the labor and packaging involved. |

Packaging is always difficult to assess but paper and cardboard and the person actually packing it all cost money. If it arrived safely then it was packed properly., so I do'nt think you should feel hard done by. |

didn't you notice the shipping charge in the auction before you bid on it? most auctions show the shipping charge up front and most people can tell if the charge is high or not. that's up to YOU to investigate, ask seller questions, etc BEFORE you bid. many people charge more on shipping that they actually need to make more profit, because there is no sales commission on shipping - I usually don't bid on things that have a high shipping costs - because it usually drives th total price above what the item is actually worth |

Well, the cost is usually "shipping and handling", remember that when you mail something you not only pay postage, but also pay for packing materials and boxes, in addition, you pay a little to compensate the person for packing the item and bringing it to the post office. You should always check the shipping and handling cost before agreeing to a purchase. |

Unfortunately, once you bid on the item you are responsible for ALL costs. I would suggest in the future to always ask the seller as many questions as possible before bidding. As far as leaving a negative feedback, I would use this situation as a learning experience and not put any negative comment. |

I believe there's something mentioned when you click on a particular item and read all the info. eBay tells you to get in touch with the seller to find out exactly how much the postage will be. Or you can scroll down to the bottom and enter your zip or postal code and it will give you the exact cost of postage. You can sometimes negotiate the postage with the seller. I was interested in a group of Christian romance novels. The cost for 11 books was about $5.00, but the postage was listed as $25.00 to where I live. I contacted the seller and she said she'd only charge me $5.00 for postage. Once you've checked out enough items, if it seems like the postall charges are exhorbitant, it's because sellers sometimes charge more than what the actual postage is. Just as in your case. In future, enter your zip code and the postage will be calculated for you. |
