I shop at Kmart, but am very upset why do the cashiers ALWAYS have to ask if you want a Sears Card.?
I am a regular shopper at Kmart, but soon will tranfer all my business to Walmart. I cannot stand it when ask at every purchase "do I want to use or open a Sears account! STOP IT Already!

More than likely they are required to ask this by the manager of Kmart. All you have to do is say no, it shouldn't bother you so much. When you go to Mcdonalds don't they always ask you if you want fries? Think about it. It's part of their job. A simple no would be pretty easy.

i work there.......the reason why we have to ask is we are required to ask by our managers. if you were a mystery shopper and we didnt ask you that's bad feedback, ultimatley resulting in less payroll.....so in the long run....it's better to grit and bear it because the lines/service will be worse if we get bad reviews. i HATE it because i feel like i am just bothering them but we have to do it.

it's part of their job to ask, and they can probably get in trouble if they don't. no big deal just say NO.

Thin Kaboudit
LOL!

So you have never been to a WalMart? They will offer you credit there, too. The cashiers are REQUIRED by their managers to offer credit opportunities, it makes money!

linda
Kmart owns Sears. They want you to shop at Kmart and at Sears.

Giggle Bear
i used to shop at kmart but switched to walmart because kmart always had one or two cash registers open and there were about 20 people waiting in line to but things....the wait would be about 20minutes in line! they never hired more cashiers so i started going to walmart....another thing about kmart is why do people always want a price check when they get to the cashier? it seems like kmart never posts the price of the item correctly!

Mr. Knowitall
They closed the Kmart here several years ago. I didn't realize they were pushing Sears' cards. That seems strange!

Places like Kmart make a lot of money on credit cards! The interest on credit cards is more than the profit they make on their merchandise! In fact it's more than it costs them to borrow money themselves. So if a large percentage of their customers use their credit cards and carry big balances, they make more on the credit than the merchandise! So you can hardly blame them for wanting you to open a credit account.

The whole problem with the US these days is that companies make money by moving money around rather than producing something of value. The people who make the most money are not inventors or engineers or people who innovate or provide a service, they are people who borrow and lend, manipulate stock prices, etc. The retail business is so competetive that big stores like Kmart, Walmart, etc. have to do all they can to keep their prices low, and this means they make as much as they can doing other things, like lending money on credit.

zippythejessi
Because Sears owns Kmart, and they push their people to up the number of Sears cards they have out there.

fredrick z
They have to ask, its part of their job. If they don't, they could be fired.
