I think it's easier for people to point the finger than to take the responsiblity for their own problems. |

It makes me crazy how people refuse to take any personal responsibility. The argument is that the food is addictive or was so effectively marketed? If the consumer has an addicitive personality, get addicted to a treadmill instead. Fast food is unhealthy so, just exercise some small measure of self-discipline and go home to eat chicken. |

It's not the companies that made them fat. It's actually going there to eat every day that causes the weight gain.
That's like trying to sue Bud Light for getting a DUI. |

I totally agree with you. People have to take responsibility for their own behavior. It's a cash-grab. |

Its ridiculous. Nobody told them to stuff their face. Im on the thick side myself, yup..I eat out but nobody forces me to and Im not about to go sue somebody. Those are lazy people that are looking for some quick cash. |

They are just looking for someone to throw the blame on rather than themselves. |

People need to take responsibility for who and what they make themselves. I was never obese, but overweight for a few years, and through discipline, hard work, and perseverance have maintained a healthy body weight and composition for many years now.
It's not the food, it's the people eating it. Nobody forced them to eat the food, they chose to do so. |

i agree with you, they make the decision to eat there and if they don't like it then they should not go to fast food places, or eat fast food in moderation. It's really that simple. I guess they probably just want money though! |

it is sad and ridiculous, it is not mcdonalds fault that they have an *** you could show a screening of jurassic park on, it is their own fault |

I do think its ridiculous too, people shouls be able to control themselves, they know these foods are not healty and should only be eaten if part of a healthy diet and lifestyle.
however, the stuff they put in these food such as MSG make them highly addictive, so people go back for more and more and are actually addicted to these foods. |

In my eyes, it is a personal decision to eat at them places knowing that you will get fat by eating them. Fast food chains have no way of forcing food on anyone. Everyone knows you eat fast food and you will get fatter. Good luck with your report. Obese people have no right to sue anyone else for their mistakes in life just like normal people. |

my personal opinion is that ITS TOTALLY WRONG.
the fast food places didnt force them drive in and order it. good grief. eat a fast food salad people!!<<.plp eat and get obese they caused it themselves..>> hey good point Reeta.. |

People that do that are in denial about their own personal responsibility. They are advocating helplessness, when obviously, the choices they make, and the repercussions they suffer, are clearly of their own making.
Lawyers will take these cases because it only takes one idiot jury to make them rich. It has nothing to do right or wrong, or protection under the law. |

As a fat person, I think it is ridiculous. I think if overweight and obese people can sue companies. Than the companies should counter-sue because they have a lack of willpower. Now if there is a study showing proof that ingrediants that they put in their food is addictive than I guess you could try but I still say no. |

It is pretty absurd.
Can I get 3 big macs, 2 large fries, an apple pie, and a diet coke (I'm watching my weight) while I wait for my attorney? |

I think it is there mouths that made them obese |

its a complete watse of money and a cheep way to get rich... if ur obese and hoenslty beleive ur addicted to fast food then go get help... u cant honesltyy sue a company becaue YOU choose to eat their product and YOU choose not to put a limit on it.. i mean if u have an over deos on pain killers do u sue the company who made the pain killers.... no because they clearly state the amount u should take... fast food companies clearly state that their products are not healthy!!! so i beleive if anything those obese people doing it shoudl get sued for wasting peoples time and making a fuss or a LIFE DESICION THEY MADE :-) |

I couldn't agree with you more. It's sad and pathetic that they sue the companies and actually win. They are the ones choosing to eat at these places. The sad thing is they could at at these places once in awhile and not be obese as long as they did a little exercise.
I've been overweight for a long time and only recently lost all the weight. The only person I have to blame is my self.
The argument about MSG and getting addicted is BS. Thousands of people can eat at these places and never get addicted to anything. The problem rests soley on the shoulders of the person eating there. |

What ever happen to personal responsibility? |

Obese people are that way for a reason. If it is because of their eating habits-they should change them. Fast food corporations provide unhealthy food, they don't shove it down your throat. You don't have to choose fast food, and if you do, it doesn't have to be for every meal. It's no secret that eating fast food everyday will most likely make you fat-so I don't understand what right obese people have blaming those corporations. Do not sue the fast food corporations, it's not there fault that you have no self control. Exercise and diet-don't sue. |

Yes, people eat the wrong foods at fast food places. They need to use control at what they order and the quantity.
Yes, it is also the company's fault because the food smells good on the outside. They make the meals that some people can handle because they are very active. People who travel a lot (truckers) don't always have a choice at where to eat, so they are usually very hungry when they stop.
No, I feel that fast food eateries should not be sued because of people's stupidity. |

Strange Days

No one held a gun to their heads and made them shove their faces full of food. They can't take responsibility for their own actions, everything wrong in their life is always someone elses fault. These are weak people mentally. It's just like the people that sued the tabacco companys. The are not responsible people and they are greedy looking for $$$$$$. |

They put the food in their mouth!!!..nobody said COME EAT THIS FOODDDD..no...thats not right...i have nothing againts overweight people..but thats just messed up. |

I am against it, but the door to this type of litigation was opened when they started awarding billions to smokers who sued tobacco companies. These fast food suits didn't start until after the tobacco awards were won. next it will be alcohol companies. Since they've allowed it for tobacco and in legal terms, set a precedent, it is only just to allow it in other areas-when will it end? |

I think that it is contradicting from their part. I dot think that food makes a person obese. I beleive that is their eating habits. Im 25 and I weight 105 and eat anything that I want but of course all withing the quantity and still eat healthy and have daily ectivity and excersise. Obese peole have grown up with bad eating habits and poor self esteem. They are like mourning people trying to balem someone else for their loss of self asurance and self pity. Its ridiculous. I hope this helps! |

I used to weigh 225 and didn't get that weight by eating salad. I stuffed my face with fast food and other junk I shouldn't have been eating. I have since lost 80 pounds and it was very difficult, but I never once blamed fast food companies, or anyone else for that matter, for my stupidity! |

There are way too many law suits involving people not taking responsibility for their own actions! No one is forcing a BigMac down your throat! As for kids, it's the parent's job to teach them how and what to eat! |
|

Donna B
 |
This has been going on since 2002 with people suing for being obese, it is the parents fault, nobody forced them to buy 6 double cheese burgers for their kid, and the response back was he/she wouldn't stop crying unless I bought them, who has control the parent or the child |

People need more self control... |

Personal Opinion: People need to grow up. Ronald McDonald did not drive you to McDonald's and force you to buy a super sized value meal with extra mayo and then hold you at gun point and shove it down your throat. Nope, you did that all on your own.
Honestly, I think America has gone sue crazy. I don't think people should be able to sue tobacco companies either. It's time for everyone to realize that the decisions they make are their own, as well as the consequences. We need to take responsibility for ourselves and stop pointing the finger everywhere else. It's the only way we'll ever have any control over our own lives. |
