I want to start my own NON-PROFIT Organization?
Or just any organization in general.
The thing is...I'm only 16.

I don't know how much I can do on my own.

I want to HELP people who can't help themselves...
I just don't know how to start... :|

Can you guys just give me a few basic things that I need to know/do to at least START it...I know once I've started it, the rest will fall into place with my work and dedication.

I don't want to hear that I'm too young to do this. I KNOW I CAN. And I will. I'm going to make a difference in peoples lives - age is NOT a factor. You don't have to be grown up to change peoples lives.

So, please. I'm asking for your help in helping me start this...

Thank you.

You need a mission and goal statement(What the org. is and who you aim to help
You need officers and a board of trustees.
Lawyer and Accountant
File with the IRS to register your nonprofit and receive a tax exempt number.
checking account
Money

for one, you dont start YOUR OWN non profit. remember the whole idea is that its not for you. non profits are runned by a board of people. the control is in many hands.
for two, are you one of those jerks who fantasies about one day running a commune?!? both of these things envolve a love for working together. start a non profit for children, not for yourself. I havent heard any mention of how you want to help people or what you can offer them. If you truly have the focus of helping people, it would just fall into place. If you have so much drive, then just start helping people. dont worry about starting a non profit. just help people. its as simple as that.

i'd say the first thing you need to do is talk to someone who can help sponsor your organization after you have a sponsor, like the bank possibly, talk to the mayor of your town/city and from there, he/she should be able to help you get everything running. ^^ you may have to get an adult's help though.

While your intentions are good, and you're right that you can do this in theory at your age, there are a lot of legal hoops to jump through, more than one of which requires you to be an adult. So you actually can't do this at your age in reality, and age IS a factor. So you're going to have to wait for two more years unless you get an adult to help you.

You can start preparing yourself, though. Come up with a mission statement and start narrowing your charitable idea down into something specific- because you're going to have to tell the government EXACTLY what your organization does, and you'll be held to it if you expect to be treated as a charitable organization for tax purposes (meaning you don't have to pay any tax and people can get tax deductions for donating to your organization). Coming up with a defined and clear mission takes time. As does planning how your organization will be run and who will be involved. Those two years will fly by.

Good luck! :0)

I would start small. Start off with local events to raise money for a soup kitchen or other local charity. I doubt, that at 16 years old, you could make a national organization without help from someone. You are going to need to conttact goverment agencys, like the IRS to get authorization of non-for-profit..
A good tip is to set goals - what do you want to do?
Next, find out any/all expenses - do I need a car, or a table for fundraisers?
Find volunteers - you can't do it alone.
Place ads - no one will know about it if they don't see something about it, this will also help with finding volunteers.
Otherwise, it's up to you from there on,
hope this helped

Man, reminds me of myself a few years ago.

Tips:
1. Get other people to join your cause.
2. Find some adults that can assist you throughout your process.
3. Read about the website: http://www.ctnonprofits.org/pages/NonProfitResources/StartNonProfit.asp

Recommendations:
1. If you really just want to help people, you might just find it easier to join a nonprofit organization. I mean, the time and effort you place to starting your own might be the setback in you helping people as soon as you can.
2. By working in a nonprofit, you can begin to understand how their organization works. What are the needs, wants, and concerns for a nonprofit. If you get your feet wet in it, it'll give you a clearer idea.
3. Try to intern at one if you can or volunteer.
4. Do research on other non profits.

Thoughts:
1. It's good that you have this kind of mentality, but you need to find the best way to release it.

Goodluck and keep your head up.
