I would like to give something back to those less fotunate, Im interested in voluntary work?
however, i am in full time employment, so would only be able to work on saturdays, any idea what kind of roles are available? preferably administrative/ office based, as my current role could be seen as a conflict of interest, and misunderstood by clients.

I'm looking towards third world causes, so any suggestions of organisations, roles in England would be a help.

I think it is great that you are thinking of doing some voluntary work, but if you are working ful time you will need to be careful not to overdo it. We all need to try to achieve a balance between work, play and sleep, amongst other things, and this is hard to achieve. But doing voluntary work can bring a great sense of satisfaction.
I used to help drive old people to a day centre and they were mostly very grateful. I also was a volunteer helping people who had difficulties in reading and writing.

The following site has many useful contacts:
http://www.connexions-somerset.org.uk/getactive/voluntarywork.html

The volunteering england site, I think, will give you all the information you need inlcuding finding your nearest local volunteer centre:
http://www.volunteering.org.uk/aboutus/

This site, I think will be able to find you the particualr area you are looking for - working for third world causes, but based in the UK:

I hope this helps:>)

Why don't you contact Oxfam or The British Red Cross.

Im in a similar position. Whilst I was a student in Sheffield a number of people helped asylum seekers with english and settling into british society which I always meant to do, but worked weekend nights too. Its not for everyone, but I know I would have liked it. If theres not a particular group you want to work with, or you dont fancy working in a charity shop (which could also be fun, making tea for the old dears, sorting out donations), you could try your local Citizens Advice Bureau. Those are staffed by volunteers, helping the people in your town claim their citizen rights. Empower the people dem! Actually, if you live in London, there are some great volutary roles you can do. One is for the British Red Cross reuniting families split up by conflict. What an amazing job that would be, imagine if you were responsible for bringing a family back together? A lot of other jobs are fundraising orientated for development organisations, which is easy to get into, but doesn't appeal to me personally. Good luck :)

Oh by the way I've just thought of something else. A really flexible way to volunteer is online with the UN, particularly if you have an extra skill through your main profession (I don't know, maybe you're good with computers, or can help with lesson plans if you're a teacher, or speak another language). Follow this link to check out the assignments. Some are quite low commitment (10 hours a week), and not all require specialist skills: http://www.onlinevolunteering.org/assignments/find_assignments.php

Hope this helps.
