If Chrysler UAW workers go on strike, should Chrysler close all of the striking factories?
I think the new owners are a lot smarter and tougher than the corporate managers at GM and Ford. They won't put up wth union nonsense
Additional Details
It won't affect me anyway since I only buy Toyotas and Hondas.

Pay scales at the car factories are ridiculous. One of the reasons new cars cost way to much. They need to do something. There are a lot of people out there who would gladly take over there jobs for half there current pay. I don't think Chrysler's new management is any smarter than Fords GM's or any of the other car companies.

No, they shouldn't. But they're in a tough place here, the workers want more and more benefits and money, and the cost of a new car is a lot...not to mention Chrysler and other American automakers have to compete with non-union Japanese and other import automakers...and people get mad because American companies cars aren't as good of quality? Well with all the extra benefits and pay to the workers, somethin's gotta give!

No, a strike doesn't mean shut down the factories and move away. Chrysler can shut them down but it is going to be a huge Press bomb they will have to deal with if their response to a strike was to shut the factories down, putting those people out of work and affecting the towns/cities where they employed those people.

The corporate image of the company will suffer and as a owner of a Chrysler product if they made such a drastic move I would never buy any of their products again.

What makes the difference,if the UAW doesn't strike they will close most the plants anyways.Of the 21 plants 14 will not have a product after 2011,and the UAW isn't asking for more benefits,we are taking a pay cut and taking over the health care. The only thing the UAW wants is for jobs to stay in the US and what is wrong with that?Wat to go,keep buying Toyota and Honda your helping America's economy by putting more Americans out of a job.

Union nonsense? You can thank unions for the five day work week, health insurance, and basically having any rights as a worker. I'm all for businesses being able to make a buck, but the American auto industry has proven itself to be very unloyal to workers. Their is no way they could bring in untrained scabs, and it would be a PR disaster if they did.

How would it be a "PR disaster" to bring in scabs? Chrysler consistently has the worst reliability of any automaker in history, how could anyone untrained or otherwise do any worse?
