in most states, your employment is "at will" and therefore it is at the will of you or your company to keep you as an employee.
Call a headhunter and start the job hunt while the hunting is still viable...........right now you still have a job, but they may start laying off employees as the other company is absorbed.
Been there, done that......jump ship while you can, but leave on the best terms you can as you may need them as a reference.

depending on where u live and work, generally your rights as an employee to retain your job are very limited

If you are employed by the smaller company who is bought out by the larger company you then become the employee of the larger company. Rights are law based so they always remain the same. You have a choice to stay with the company or give notice.
