Alex | If a huge Corporation were to cover every type of business in their Company, would his be monopolising ? |
for example, if microsoft were to make cars, clothes, tv's, dvd players, and every possible business, would this be aloud or would it be monopolising |

migdalski
No; it's diversification.
If MS were doing the only computer stuff in the whole world, that would be a monopoly. |

Tracker
It would only be a monopoly if they eliminated the competition, either by merger, hostile takeover, or unfair business tactics leaving only one company making everything. |

Norman O
No, it is ALLOWED. |

No, I think it only applies if a company tries to take a considerable amount of the market share, of an industry. I think of 51% would be consider as trying to monopolise a certain industry |

No, a monopoly exists when a specific individual or enterprise has sufficient control over a particular product or service to determine significantly the terms on which other individuals shall have access to it.
And to stallliont you're an idiot and you should read up on a subject before you blindly criticize someone else. |

No a monopoly is where a company is the only one of it's type in a certain field and there is no competition e.g. Tescos being the only supermarket in the country or B&Q being the only diy store
a company making more than one type of product is diversifying |

Repository Supository
Not if there was adequate Competition from others in each of those different ventures.
But if they were the only one there then yes this would be the beast of all monopolising.. |

Princess Paradox
I'm not sure, but what they usually class as monopolising would be if Microsoft were to buy Apple, then they'd have a monopoly over the computer industry and it would violate competition laws because you would have to buy their products and wouldn't have any alternatives. |

stallliont

Technically yes, but in these days of the govt looking the other way, don't expect them to act on it, especially if the Republicans are in charge.
OK, waiting for all of the thumbs down from the Kool-Aid drinking Republicans out there...
