If a person is sick (common cold) should they come into the office?
Typical stuffy corporate office. No windows. This guy comes to work coughing, sneezing, drizzling snot. When asked why he came in, he says "he has to feed his family, pay the bills, he can't afford to be sick". Meanwhile, multiple other employees catch the cold and are at home for 3-4 days to recover. What the hell? Why do people come to work if they are sick? You can't breath in those offices anyway!

Poor guy, probably a single income family. If he doesn't make money his family will go without. He probably caught it from one of his kids. Doctor bills are very high. And when you are sick and your kids are sick sometimes you sacrifice yourself for their sake. When you are a parent you do those things. Speak to your boss about providing adequate insurance so the workers can afford to go to the doctor. And maybe have the boss offer overtime to make up for sick days. It will help out everyone in the long run. You, the sick person, his family and all those around you.

I use to work at a truckstop and if you missed a day of work you had to bring in a doctors excuse or you would be fired. So everytime you get a cold or something, they expected you to go to a doctor.Come on, I worked at a truckstop making minimum wage.Who could afford a doctor. So I'd go to work sick and like you said, everybody else would catch it. I felt bad about it, but I really had no choice.

I say no....colds spread easily and before you know it most of the office are poorly..but employers are not the most sympathetic of folks and tend to brow beat us into going into work when we know we shouldn`t.

Maybe one day you'll grow up & have a family to feed & be on the receiving end of some jerk like you comments.
Not everyone here has the luxury to lay out whenever we feel like it.

Well, I guess it is really up to that person. I think that he should take some medicine and see if he feels better. Maybe take just one sick day to get it out of his system.

It's one of the worst things people can do - that's why company's have paid sick time.

If workers stayed home with a common cold not much would get done in the winter. It would be worth it to keep boxes of tissues handy, use a lot of hand sanitizer between washings, spray Lysol around the office, wipe down your phone with disinfectant, and disinfect door knobs and restrooms. If you have a fever, you are probably contagious and should try to take a day off to rest, get your fever down, and drink fluids. You might even put a small fan on your desk, blowing away from you.

it's a sticky wicket as they say. if someone has a compromised immune system they could actually catch pneumonia and die.
but who is to say what is and isn't a contractible condition. some people have allergies, some have a cold that is past contagious stage, who gages this??? People should just try to be conscientious and consider their fellow employees! Take the first day or two off it's really bad, take symptom relievers so you're not spewing all over the office and cover your face when sneezing or coughing!
best you can do it go out a lot, as often as possible, wear a dust mask if you have to, and grow a beard if you're a guy. (it actually helps filter the air we breath)
Good Luck! And just try to keep as far away as possible:)))

They have to.No other option.

If you get sick days, no he shouldn't come in...

stuckinamoment
Yes, if he is paid by the hour, he probably does need the money. I've worked many times when I was sick because it was such a pain in the *** to call off. And yes, not everyone can afford a doctor to get the doctor's note. I went to work with bronchitis for week before my coworkers told me I better go to the doctor, they were tired of hearing me cough! So I called off two days, went to the doctor, was the sickest I've ever been in my life... and I get a letter sent to my house stating that if I call off one more time I would be 'excused from the program', which means fired. Employers aren't too happy with sick employees. I don't think many of them believe that someone is actually sick.

Just Lysol the entire office. It sucks for everyone involved.

okiedokey
They shouldnt come to work sick. Working from home is a good substitute, if you company allows it and wont count it as a sick day.
