details: i went in for a second all day interview for a chemical engineering position. at the end of the interview, they showed me a salary range and benefits package, etc. that was two weeks ago and when i inquired to about my job status i was sent an email stating "we are still interviewing candidates." does that mean im still being considered or is that a "get lost" letter. some of my older friends say it means move on. what do you people think? im new to the corporate world. thanks |

they are still deciding, but you probably shouldn't just sit around waiting for them, cause if they haven't picked you yet, they may pick someone else. I would read "we are still interviewing candidates." = "we will/would probably hire you if some one better doesn't come along first, and we are currently waiting to see if someone better doesn't show up".
However since they gave you the second interview and showed you all the packages , they are definitely interested in you, maybe just not interested enough.... I would keep looking, with the hope that maybe you'll get good news from them, or maybe you will find something even better at the next interview!!! |

Probably means that they were not all warm and fuzzy about you, They are waiting for an answer from someone else or they are expanding their search. There is a possibility that they are still going through the second interviews with someone else. Maybe they could not get it scheduled right away. So some chance but I would look elsewhere. |

You should never stop looking if you are in a job search. You need to continue to look regardless of how many Company's you are interviewing with. Given the fact that it is summer, it is more difficult to schedule meetings etc. I would take them at their word that they are still interviewing. You may or may not still be in the running. So keep looking regardless. |

Yes, move on. If they were interested in hiring you why would they still be interviewing other people for the position? |

More than likely it means that they really are sitll interviewing for the position because they want the best person to fill the job and probably received a lot of applications. The fact that you had a 2nd interview and they went over all the benefits etc. is definately promising. I would keep inquiring because it shows that you are interested in the job and the company and if the position gets filled, I'm sure they would inform you of this when you inquire. It could mean you are still in the running (it could be a very long process) but chances are they are saying no. Trying to get an HR department to say "we've chosen someone else," or "we've decided not to hire you," is like trying to find a live person by phone in customer service. |
