Pricing is affected by people 'shopping around'. If one supplier has their price above the others, then they will lose out unless they can offer something else better (eg convenience, quality, image, add-ons).
In the UK, traditional suppliers have lost out to the supermarkets because their fuel is cheaper.
But there are also basic costs of the fuel and duty to cover, even if the price seems high to us as customers; companies have to cover their costs or go out of business. So even a boycott will not force prices below a proftiable level. And why should it? They are businesses not charities!
