In Canada (BC) you can't use the entire bill as a write off. You are using most of your house to live in. Only the part you use for business are you allowed to write off. You can write off a portion of your hyrdro, telephone. You should consult a bookkeeper or accountant. |

HOW EVER you will be opening a Big can of woop a... worms as far as KGB/IRS is concerned. this 'deduction' is a fast track to red flags for Aduits for IRS.
if you insist and must, get a serious tax certified CPA , cross ur T's , dot ur i's and
double check ur x's.
More often the effort is NOT worth the pain that follows. |

Of course. Your business is different from you. If you give out that part of your house for rent to other businesses, you will expect to be paid. Am I correct? |

You can use the % of your household expenses ... mortgage, utilitizes, telephone, etc as as a deduction from your taxes when you file at the end of the year. For example if your home is 1000 Sq ft and you use 100 Sq Ft for your office, you can use 10% of your mortgage or rent as a business expense. Same with utilities, etc. Keep good records... the IRS does audit home businesses more frequently than other. Your sons checks are absolutely a business expense and can be deducted as well. Hope this helps. |
