If the Auto union won't make ANY concessions than shouldn't they be allowed to fail?
With high salaries and terrific benefits that most of us could not even dream of than why should we give them a hand out???
The senate refused.

Of course they should be allowed to fail - that is how capitalism works. The strong succeed, the weak die. The government has no business stepping in and putting up taxpayer money in support of a private corporation.

The auto companies have been producing an overpriced product for a very long time, taking massive debt to fund promotions and incentives to get people to buy their product. Now, that they are on the brink of failure, they want the American people to bail them out. Let them file for bankruptcy - just like the airlines. Let stockholders lose their investment, bondholders become creditors, and let them recapitalize.

Why are we bailing out a wasteful company/union with taxpayer money? Let them file for bankruptcy and start fresh - let those who caused the problem suffer the consequences.

Yes, bad business practices should not be rewarded with government money. The open market will determine the best players. If permitting organized labor to dictate contract terms happens to be an unprofitable means of doing business, then they will eventually starve themselves to death.

Yes! They should be forced to go out of business.
