If wages and benefits for the Big 3 average $78 per employee and American Toyota workers are $48 then why ca?
the auto union make this cut or are they just expecting all us taxpayers to give them a BIG hand???

Silly Rabbit.

If workers get the same wages with union representation, as they would get without it, then they don't need the union. The only jobs the UAW board is interested in protecting are their own.

Executives in Japanese companies don't make 50 million per year, how can we get the white collar jobs in these companies to align with overseas companies. Just one of their salaries would pay for a thousand workers salaries.

The uaw plain and simple. I was listening to our senator who was working last night trying to write the bail out verbiage for the big three and they were stuck on three words and it all dealt with the pay and what date they would bring the structure into alignment with Toyota and Nissan and BMW but the uaw walked out so let them go bankrupt that is what GM and Ford and Chrysler want as then they can bust the uaw and get back to work but then they will also have to produce a good product to keep up
Yes the three things were said by Tn senator on the radio this am in a live interview

companies have contracts with UAW, they can't just cut the wages.

If the companies went bankrupt then the rules change. They refuse to do that.

The $78 figure is misleading.

The automakers are including the retirement benefits of older employees in this figure.

Toyota doesn't have this legacy cost.

Toyota pays it's unskilled employees $27 an hour. GM pays theirs $31, but this includes anyone in the job bank or in "protected status."
