Their burn rate is high. Nobody is buying their cars. The economy is going to be slow for AT LEAST a year. Even when the Volt comes out they will LOSE MONEY on every one for a few years. And $25 billion is NOTHING to GM. Plus, even with a bailout they aren't suddenly going to make better cars and people aren't going to suddenly want to buy them. So, aren't we just postponing the inevitable? |

Seems so since a lot of the money spent so far has been to get people to take buyouts. UAW has a "jobs bank" still from years ago that is still part of the contract. Do you know anyone else in any other job that is paid 95% of their 60k, for sitting at home? Or anyone who shows up to work , who isn't sent home if no work was available, but paid 60k to play cards or do crosswords in the lunchroom? Every job I have ever had the incentive was for work. When I didn't work I was broke. I wasn't planning on going to the cabin to do some fishing while I was playing cards on the company dime. Contracts have to be voided.
Company executives need to be making a real wage also, before you ask the American public to pay for people playing cards or having Cosmo's at the club. |

Yes. But it's all about buying votes, not solving the problem.
No company (or other people) should be able to force taxpayers to give them money when they don't want to do it voluntarily.

Yes, we ought to just give these people unemployment benefits & make them go to school to learn how to do something they can do in the future to support themselves...How to open a home office or anything they they like & are capable of doing...just retrain them. |

must not bail out GM as giving them will not stop GM from bankrupcy. and right fri,sat and sun GM/UAW has been paying out millions of dollars to the US house of Reps and the US senate taking them to various parties, dinners etc to get them to bail them out. |
