In businesses, why do people resist change?
Give me a scenario where you had to go through a change.
Additional Details
Give me a few details that the staff has to deal with in a workplace. As a manager what could you do to facilitate those changes?

Changes are often resisted - it's a break from the norm, a break from the comfort zone we are so used to. It's a risk, there no guarantee that it will works (as compared to the existing one people have been used to and know it works!). But change is constant, necessary to get ahead. To implement any change, it should be clearly explained to all concerned as to WHY the need to change, that the end results will benefit ALL, and to ask for support (trial, monitor result, review and if it works, why not the change?)

Typewriters. How many who couldn't make the transition to computers, I can't count. Always ordering carbon paper, ribbons and the like to support the reason for keeping them.

fear of computers and the admitting of no knowledge of them does many folks in.

Businesses don't like change because they are used to doing one thing and one thing only. They know how to do their specific job and that's it. A lot of people think they won't like change because they are afraid of change because they are so used to one thing. They are so used to it they got it down pat and they can't ever mess up, but when changes come along, so do mistakes and people don't want to make mistakes.

People resist change because they are afraid of uncertainty. You have an entire family to support and a lifestyle to maintain and any risk that could adversely affect them will be fought tooth-and-nail.
