Interviewing for a major position. When do I ask about benefits?
Im 40 and going for a interview for a management position with a new company. When does one actually discuss benefits package? Do you make an appointment after the interview for another time or what?

Some say it's not a good idea to ask about benefit packages at interviews. Some wait until there has been a job offer before actually asking. If you are offered the job you can discuss benefit packages and then decide whether or not to accept the job.

Some times interviewers will ask you if you have any questions about the job at the end of the interview - This is usually the best time to ask about benefits - Make sure you ask other 'job performance questions or queries' you may have before asking about benefits.

Employers usually like to feel that the interviewee is interested in the job and the opportunities it offers rather than the extended benefits. - Take the time to judge whether the situation feels appropriate to ask.

Or look up the company website under employment and see if you can find a rough guide as to what benefits they offer their employees and use that as a guide. Most big companies advertise their benefits to attract new employees so hopefully you may find the answers there.

Good Luck with the interview. :)

Kendell,

For a Management position, you will have several interviews.

The first will be either by telephone or in person with a junior HR person who will do the weeding out. You will tell them that your salary is negotiable, but you can ask about benefits. If the benefits are not right for you, no need to schedule the second interview.

If you shine during the first interview, they will contact you for the second one. The second one will be with your future boss and professional equals.

GOOD LUCK!

Well, if you are interviewing with Human Resources, they are the people to ask. Your direct manager may also tell you. You will want to make sure you have a point of contact to call after the interview so you can ask such questions.

So basically, ask Human Resources, or ask the person who you may talk to about benefits. Probably toward the end when they ask if you have questions, after you've built a good rapport.

Good luck!

In any interview I've ever had, toward the end of the interview if they plan on hiring you they will ask if you have any questions, that would be the time to ask, if they haven't already covered the subject. good luck
