Skeptic | Is Bankruptcy best for the Big Three and the US? |
Spencer Abraham, a failed Senator from Michigan, is now a hired gun consultant for the big 3 auto makers. He tries to assert in an OP-ED piece for the New York Times that "bankruptcy proceedings would be followed by liquidation." What?... Especially after our Chrysler experience.
Let them go into bankruptcy, so that we can clean out the dirty board members and the dirty executives who care more about their power, than the well-being of the American people and their stockholders.
Abraham is dirty, representing monied interests. We need to have a reorganization of the industry with new leadership. Get the fat cats out of the way. (Abraham, please go on a diet. You look like you will have a heart attack any day now.)
Do you agree? |

Funny you asked! Today I have wrote a lot about this since my husband works at Chrysler is about to lose his job after 13 yrs! Bankruptcy is okay as long as they can't put the employees out of jobs which is what Chrysler wants to do which is why they are offering buy-outs to the employees since under the new contract they can hire in at $12 hr and that's okay. And they also offering transfers to other plants but there are no openings. Bankruptcy will throw out the UAW contract and us little peons will starve and lose our homes. There need to be strict conditions in the bailout but if they go under do people even realize how many jobs this will effect and not just the workers. There would be millions more jobs lost and it would make the economy worse than it already is. People just don't get it!!! If you want America to get back on tract then go buy a new Dodge Ram or Chrysler and quit buying foreign cars!!! Looks like we are forced to take the buyout anyway its the only thing thats certain or we could end up with nothing before this is all over with. |

Let them go into bankruptcy and start restructuring so that the companies can become profitable. That means renegotiating labor contracts, pension funds, and dumping some poor parts of the business. If the US bails them out now, then we can expect to bail them out again in 6 months just like the banks. You can't fix a broken business model or insolvent balance sheet simply by throwing tax payer money at the problem... the quicker our leaders figure that out the faster we get through this recession.

so putting a bandage on all these financial problems is the solution - NOT!
fix the problem, not the symptoms.

I entirely agree. American taxpayers should not have to foot the bill for poor marketing and business management. |

If we bail them out how far have we really gotten? Just put off the bankruptcy, but it's inevitable. The companies should either go bankrupt or be bailed out with forced terms to restructure entirely. It's no secret that American auto companies can't compete with foreign. It's not just beginning to be a problem right now, it always has been. It's like an irresponsible teenager with a credit card. Bail them out and don't cut up their card? They're going to be right back in debt by the next statement. Just seems silly. |

the man, the myth, the legend.

yea, but if we dont throw a little money their way, and we were to be put in a war onces they fail!!!! we would be screwed! however, i just think the government should be taking over some of these companys that are crying for money! because in my opinion, we should of never let them get that big! because there is noooooooooooo way that our government should ever say.... AIG is too big to fail! come on now! if they are too big like that, then they are lacking competition. |
