There is no way to tell. Any gift card should be used promptly, not so much because of a threat of bankruptcy but simply on the basis of sound money management. |

I don't think they are going out. I just heard today that they are taking over an old car dealer lot near me and building a huge store. But you never know.... |

i would use it
gift cards, air miles, gift points etc, while in some cases can deliver, have fine print that can drop you through a trap door
i have used gift cards as gists in the past, because if you're giving them to someone you dont know their tastes, but know where they like to shop, you can succeed better
in any case, if your going to give them, make sure the reciever will use it QUICKLY |

circuit city closed a bunch of stores.
There are many different types of bankruptcy
chapter 11 is liquidate everything close your doors-that is what happened to Mervyn's--sniff sniff one of my long time favorites
Chapter 7 or 13 is bankrupt protection, many will close a few stores and restructure their management staff (layoffs, removing some assistant managers and CSM's)
Many businesses try to avoid the final stage and will restructure like maybe selling their debt to an outside creditor or layoff's.
Borders, Circuit City and Bed Bath & Beyond did this
Best Buy is FAR from closing its stores forever, it would be like Target folding. Best Buy is the main source for electronics, games and appliances.
FYI Circuit City is NOT going out of business. My husband works in a brand new strip mall that has a new circuit city next door. He knows the manager and he said that they are closing their low volume stores (not that new store or in our next town either) they are not closing stores in our immediate area but in Stockton and Sacramento area they are closing several stores 120 nation wide |

No, that's circuit city that is going bankrupt. They will probably have many store shutdowns soon. But.. bestbuy just built a new store near my house, so no that's not going to happen. |

Circuit City's stock is currently at $0.21
They are out for the count.
Best buy is slowly dropping from 20 or so. I think they can hold it up till something good happens. Gift cards suck anyways. |

In today's uncertain market I would say no gift cards, you just don't know what the picture will hold. Remember this is the biggest economic downturn in most people's lifetime. If you were my son I would tell you to cash in your gift card. And I know we won't be doing any gift cards this season in our family. Anything is really possible with these retailers especially if they have a very bad Christmas Season. They have spent so much money putting stores everywhere, that hasn't helped them either. We have 3 best buys within a few miles of each other. That is just crazy!
Remember Circuit City, Linen's and Things, etc. They have recently filed usually there is no warning, last year I got stuck with a Sharper Image gift card and it had only been bought a short time before. Gift Cards are considered the first to be suspended because you are then considered a creditor of theirs and are at the end of the line to get your money back. |

I don't see why, but I hope they don't! I have all my warranties w/ them! If they go bankrupt, then i will have to be careful w/ my electronics (lawl). |

I don't know why BB would go bankrupt... |

doubt it because your dad is thinking of circuit city. circuit city is going out of business after the holidays leaving the electronic business solely to best buy. |
