Companies like reliance, wall mart and TATAs are all set to bring full featured retail outlets in India .. good thing as a service but are we ready??? Well, Countries like USA or UK or Arabs are so strong economically that they hire people to work for them but in India we have unemployment and illetracy in first place how can we give someone permission to kill all the local shops in one blow!!! and make our poor country more poor its like Bigger fish eating the smaller ones !!! I wonder if there one retail mall fails to kill earnings of 500 local shops in various categories of your town... u may be one of them !!! think how wdverse this may be... a chain of malls in thousands over india having stocks which cant be thought of and so price of purchase can be so low that their selling price may also be as low... true the customers will benifit but where will we earn from ???? where is secured economy as in teh time of Indira Gandhi... is this Globalisation?? This may not work out in India.
For one, we do not have large sized refrigerators like in the U.S. So buying in bulk and storing the items cannot be done. People prefer to buy from the nearby shops things that they require immediately rather than stocking up on things.
Remember Walmart had to close down in Korea just for this reason. Also, the average size of the Indian home is much too small for bulk purchase and storing.
It just won't work out here. |

change is always welcomed. We have successful chains like Adanis in Gujarat and Subeshaka in South. Adani started their chain of department stores some 6 to 7 years back when the concept of buying form a Department stores was at its grassroo level. People accepted them and welcomed the change in buying concept and today Adanis are having 56 department stores across Gujarat, which Reliance is negotating to buy. So I feel India is ready for retail culture. |

i agree wid u ..wt abt te traditional kirana shops???...te retailers,te distributors,te wholesalers...??....te whole chain is goin to b destroyed.all these middle men r goin to b destroyed in te near future.....i also agree tt te employement opp. will increasebut 4 te youth.whr r u going to put these old men,te local store owners n distributers,who have never worked under anybody? they all say these big players r not goin to affect te traditional shops but they never say how is it not affecting...IT IS...can't they clearly see tt.. |
