It's tough to say it's not really a monopoly as the do have competitors such as ASDA . however on recent figures tescos earnings work out that for every £8 spent in Britain £1 is spent in Tesco. making them the biggest supermarket chain in britain

neither! It is one of a great number of big supermarket chains!! It's in an imperfect compettive market!!

luludoodie
The definition of a monopoly used to be defined as a company with more than 30% of a market.

Tesco have more than 30% of the UK grocery market but with their strong competitors (albeight a long way behind) they don't have it all their own way!

CEILING CAT!!!
Neither! Its a poly parrot!

it operates in an oligopoly market. It operates in the retail sector (supermarkets) - in this industry there are only a few big names who are popular and as big (profit wise) - tesco, sainsbury, asda, etc

neither it operates under the monopoly threshhold and whilst its market it oligopolist in terms of a small number of big players, it cannot sustain its position longer term.
