I am a Walmart shopper, but EVERY TIME I go there I end up spending way, way more money then I should have or wanted to. I use to be iffy about the situation and double check my receipts to see if the cashier added something twice or put in a higher price so that she can correct it later and pocket the difference.
But I'd have to say it's BOTH good and bad, it's just the deals hypnotize us and make us forget all about what we came there for... |

Currently Walmart is Bad for America!!!
When Sam Walton was around, Walmart was all about
MADE IN AMERICA, if you don't remeber, ask some older.
This mentality kept Walmart and our familie strong.
Now a days it's hard to find anything made in America at
Walmart. Believe it! Oh thats right! You want low prices everyday. So you lost your Factory Job, to Work in Walmart
selling what you used to make, that is now may a day in China. Who buy the way, don't seem to be too friendly much anymore.
Walmart will kill Western Civilization. When it moves to China, because we've allready gave them all of our money, and they go to China to take Theirs. Believe it! |

Bad. They are a monster in the industry in every way but good. Outside the boundries of the United States? They are a poor and patronizing ambassador to your country.
I refuse to buy there, I end up with products there because my sister in law works in their pharmacy. But they are the last resort for anything really.
I do not like them at all. They come into a neighbourhood and that is effectivly the end of the nieghbourhood as you used to know it. They suck the business out of everyone else.
They treat their suppliers with little respect, abuse their suppliers with outrageous demands only after they have gotten their talons on the poor company.
They treat their employees poorly and have you ever seen a union in any of their franchises? In the province of Quebec in Canada the union got into one store ...Wal Mart closed the whole thing down and moved on. I know that in Guelph Ontario that they are still fighting like a mad dog to keep the United States Lamprey out of the city.
I've been told the best way to get rid of the parasite is to infect it with a union. They will close their doors and move on to another place.
I despise what they stand for and how they do business. They are a vile and ugly company. Cheap yes, but man are they cheap. |

Yes or No, depending on whether you're talking to the small town drugstore owner thay put out of business, or the working class couple that can buy their kids some pretty decent clothes cheap. |

BAD BAD BAD!!!!
Walmart does not offer living wages
walmart does not offer reasonable or effective health plans
walmart destroys small community businesses
walmart ENCOURAGES people to go on government assisted healthcare <which means TAX PAYERS pay for walmart employees healthcare instead of walmart>
No products from Walmart are American made which leads to sweat shop, poor labor standards, poor saftey standards in those factories
walmart is not good for america in any way
edit: when i was poor, i didnt shop at walmart, now that im not poor, i still wont shop at walmart.
There are other places a low income family can shop that has better business practices than walmart. |

WalMart sucks blood out of rocks and gives America gas and intestinal bloating. WalMart gives donations to FOX/GOP-TV propaganda machinery and helps bring slave labor to a local republican family near you. |

Yes...Wal-Mart Wal-Mart it our store, we shop there cause we are poor...Everyday low prices. |

Yes....and no. Low prices are good for the American consumer. But our country is slowly outsourcing jobs, manufacturing, farming, etc., and we are basically becoming a service based economy.
Most of the products from WalMart come from China, but that is the same for many companies. We have sacrificed quality for money, and our debt to Communist China continues to grow. The products that they sell are often inferior and sometimes deadly.
WalMart has also gone in to small communities and brought more products to the area at the cost of many small businesses closing down. Nothing illegal about that, just a point. They also brought jobs to the area as well.
The question is, how much more are Americans willing to pay to keep jobs and production in the U.S.? Most would say they would rather have the cheap prices. I prefer not to shop at Walmart. It's a personal decision, but I try to support the small business person and not buy from China. |

!truth!

Good because Walmart prices are more affordable for the consumers, bad because the goods it sells may have been made by child labor, or in instances, the products may be tainted or unsafe to use. |

I think that it is good for America. It has mostly everything that we need in one place. The prices are not to bad either. It also gives alot of jobs to people. In my town everyone hated Wal Mart because it was a box store and they were afraid that it would kill business for smaller stores. The truth is I don't mind the smaller stores, but they are expensive and do not have much of a variety. Also the small store cannot employee over a hundred employees! My mother works at the Wal Mart where I live and she is doing well. She has gotten 3 raises, medical, dental and they even gave her a $1000 when she got divorced to get on her feet. Wal Mart helps alot of foundations also. I admit I am a Wal Mart shopper and I like it. |

It provides lots of jobs and low prices across America and aroudn the world. It contibutes to the GDP far in excess of its revenues. And anyone, regardless of income, can buy some of its stock and pariticpate in its growth. Even store owners that went out of business!
Unless one believes in a static America, wher nothing ever changes and it remains as it was before Walmart started, then it seems like a great American success story to me.
So why not? |

Yes - it contributes a huge amount of tax revenue and provides employment.
Insomuch as America is supposed to be a free and democratic society, then surely any business should have the freedom to function within the country as long as it is operating within the law.
If any consumer has doubts about the ethical nature of a business, surely they have the option simply not to buy from them. If enough people boycott a business, it will either have to change or will go bust. |

Good, because when I'm tight on cash I go to walmart and get most of what i need except groceries we don't have a super walmart in san diego.. |

yes it provided everything we needed right in one place but I know that wal mart is no longer going for lowest prices they want to compete with like other stores for quality so goodbye to low prices at walmart |

Yes, because it employs a lot of people. It is better to employ more people at less a wage then vice versa. |

It is a Yes and No. In general, BAD, almost everywhere Wal-mart opens a store, the thriving local economy dies. All the mom and pop shops go bust and you have just "wal-mart". Towns with wal-marts show dramatic poverty increases since most people lose their jobs and are forced to work at that wal-mart for poverty level wages, which means they only shop at al-mart, which takes down the last of the local economy that survived.
Now, people argue that wal-mart doesn't cause poverty, but why is it that areas with a Target don't show a dramatic poverty drop.
The only place Wal-Mart is good, is in very rural areas and in already poverty stricken neighborhoods, where it can't do any more harm than good.
I would also like to add that you get what you pay for, a lot of stuff at wal-mart is just PURE CRAP. And if you go to one, do you ever see an employee smiling? They just look pure suicidal. it's like walking into county hospital :) |

As with most things, there are always trade-offs (pluses and minuses). But, net-net I think Wal-Mart has been good.
Some good things - It has advanced inventory management and delivery systems eons which has made goods delivery more efficient (i.e. less costly) across the industry (i.e. we benefit from lower costs in Target as well because Target has learned some lessons from Wal-Mart); provided jobs where there weren't jobs before; low prices has freed up income to spend on other things like iPods, LCD screen TVs, etc.; they've pushed competition to really differentiate themselves (I'd much rather have the options I have today between Target, Kohl's, JCPenney, etc. than the choices I had 20 years ago with TG&Y, Kmart, Venture, the old JCPenny and other poorly managed dogs)
Some bad things - Low prices freed up income for people to spend on things like meth and heroine, a lot of green fields have been converted to concrete albotross's that may be obsolete in 30 years |

It's good for the shoppers and the Wal-Mart owners, and not so good for the employees and the rest of the industry. |

for america, its excellent.
meaning cheap labour force for the production.
For Tibet, not that great. Young women work in sweatshops (for walmart), 70 hours a week, for 14 cents an hour. |

It is not good. It is like taking over like a Monopoly.
The younger generation after Daddy died went against what he was striving for. Keep America jobs in America. You don't see the little posting about Made In America by the products anymore. Look @ the clothing line almost all of them are made in another country. Putting America workers out of jobs. *which some are not willing to do anyway*. I know sorta hitting below the belt on that one. |
